The class begins by investigating two landmark exhibitions \u2013 Primitivism in 20th Century Art (New York, 1985) and Magiciens de la Terre (Paris, 1989) \u2013 in order to consider the perception and presentation of so-called \u201cnon-western art\u201d and to broadly historicize present-day \u201cglobal\u201d art practice.
