and Sub-imperial art in India from the 16th to the 19th century.\u00a0 The art of the Mughal court evinces a dynamic visual response to an ever-changing cultural and political environment.\u00a0 Lectures will be arranged chronologically to highlight how art (and in some cases architecture) was used as a tool for building a united empire.\u00a0 Issues of local and global cultural exchange are of principal concern in the course and we will consider the arrival of the Mughals in India, the development of Imperial and Sub-imperial schools of painting, the expression of regional artistic
