Dear members and friends of the Department of Fine Arts,<\/p>\n

The Department of Fine Arts at the University of Hong Kong is pleased to announce that the winner of this year\u2019s University of Hong Kong Museum Society Asian Art Essay Prize is Mr. Edmund Saw\u00a0Ngai\u00a0Mun\u00a0for an essay entitled, \u201cAn Analysis of the Song-dynasty painting\u00a0Apes Picking Up Fruits (Yuan\u00a0hou\u00a0zhai\u00a0guo\u00a0tu \u00a0<\/i>\u733f\u7334\u6458\u679c\u5716)\u00a0<\/i>\u201d\u00a0Please join us in congratulating Edmund! The winning essay can be viewed\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The jury for this year\u2019s prize has also awarded a special mention to Ms. Lam\u00a0Lok\u00a0Yi for an essay entitled, \u201cThe Transformation in Picturesque Style in George\u00a0Chinnery\u2019s\u00a0Painting from 1802 to 1852.\u201d<\/p>\n

We also wish to express our special gratitude to the University of Hong Kong Museum Society for their generosity in sponsoring this annual prize and funding the cash award of $2,000. The prize is open to all undergraduate majors in Fine Arts. The jury consisted of Dr. Carolyn Muir (undergraduate coordinator, 2009-10), Dr. Roz Hammers (specialist in Chinese and Indian art and architecture), and Dr.\u00a0Yeewan\u00a0Koon (specialist in Chinese and Japanese art).<\/p>\n

Special thanks are due, finally, to all the students who made the extra effort to revise and submit essays originally written for their Art History courses. Such efforts help the entire department raise our level of excellence in both teaching and learning.<\/p>\n
