Tung specializes in landscape, birds, and flowers. However, his paintings are executed in various styles and techniques. Apart from using textile techniques on rice paper, he also used motifs from cave paintings and early Chinese art in his works. Since 1994, he has started to incorporate ancient Chinese characters and folk symbols. In early 70's, he participated in various joint exhibitions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan, and the United States. His works were presented in the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition of 1975, 1977, 1979 and 1987. His album The Art of Tung Hing Yee was published in 1996.
