Chu was a graduate of the Department of Sculpture Art in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing and member of the Chinese Artists Association. He settled in Hong Kong in 1984, and is a member of the Hong Kong Association of Sculptors and the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Artists Association. He has taught in the extra-mural programmes of both the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is the Director of The Cutian Art Studio.
