Robert O'Brien spent his childhood in Congo, Egypt and England. He is a permanent resident of Hong Kong and has been living on Cheung Chau Island for over 26 years. He graduated from the Central St. Martins (the London Institute) in Theatre Design in 1961. He lived in and visited countries in Europe, North Africa, North America and Asia. He has worked extensively in the field of art education in Hong Kong, including as a part-time lecturer in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He had held 11 one-man shows and participated in 32 group shows in Europe and Asia since 1964. He participated in exhibitions held in Osaka and Tainam in 2000, and held a one-man show in Hong Kong as part of The City Festival in 2001 as well as participating in group shows in Seoul and Tokyo. His work is in both public and corporate collections in Hong Kong, as well as Europe, USA and Asia.
