Yeung studied the Basic Art and Design Program part-time at the Department of Extra-Mural Studies of the University of Hong Kong from 1978 to 1980. His work was first exhibited at the Tsung Tat Book Shop in Happy Valley in 1979, and one of his early solo exhibitions took place at the Ninety Seven Restaurant in Lan Kwai Fong, Central in 1984. In 1987, he held his “Art for Art Sick” solo exhibition and residency at the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Hong Kong. In 1988, Yeung resigned from his job as an accountant, effectively ending his 18 years of “white-collar” life. From 1989 to 1990 he traveled around Europe, subsequently returning to study at the University of Hong Kong (majoring in Fine Arts and Comparative Literature). He graduated in 1994, and since 1995 he has been teaching at the Fanling Lutheran Secondary School. From 1996 to 2000, Yeung has been involved in various community art projects. In 2002 his solo retrospective show, “The Red Twenty Years of Ricky Yeung Sau Churk”, was held at Para/Site Art Space.
