Of French, Japanese, and Polynesian descent, and living between Hong Kong, New York, and Nice, France, Aranita is a painter and fine art photographer. Apprenticed to a woodcut artist for eight years in a Zen temple in Japan after being orphaned as a child, he later studied photography with Ansel Adams and Minor White in America. A former newswire war correspondent, banker, and university professor, Aranita was educated at the University of Hawaii, Columbia University, the New School for Social Research, and the University of East Anglia. In private collections internationally, Aranita was awarded the Sovereign Contemporary Asian Art Award in 2004.
