In 1963, Ko obtained B. Sc (Eng), the University of Hong Kong. 1969, he obtained the Ph.D., the University of Southampton. 1995, he obtained the D.Sc., the University of Hong Kong and 2004, the D.Sc., the University of Southampton. Now, he is an Emeritus and Honorary Professor, the University of Hong Kong. Ko started doing underwater photography in 1964. In 1970, he won the gold and silver medals in underwater photography, the Underwater Federation of Hong Kong. In 1979, Ko started doing sculpture. 1983, he won the Urban Council Fine Arts Award for Sculpture. Since 1980, Ko has held many one-man exhibitions in sculpture, paintings, installation, photography and underwater photography. He has participated in more than sixty joint exhibitions. Many of his monumental and outdoor sculptures are on display in public places in Hong Kong. Private collectors in different parts of the world collect his smaller works of sculpture and paintings.
