Pao graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic with a Professional Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography in 1985. She has held five solo exhibitions and her work has been shown in many different places: Goethe Insitute, Hong Kong (1995); Museum fur Kunthandwerk, Frankfurt, Germany (1997), Goethe Forum, Munich, Germany (1997), Anderson Gallery, Virginia Commonwealth University (1997), and Spacex Gallery, Exeter England (1998). She has also participated in various group shows including Hong Kong Heritage Museum (2001); “Magic at Street Level”- The 49th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale, China, Hong Kong Pavilion (2001); “Hot Pot: Contemporary Chinese Art” (2001), etc. Pao has received several awards: Special Jury Award, Sign of Living Video Competition, organized by RTHK (1989); 6 months Fellowship to travel and research on American Art, Asian Cultural Council (1991); Scholarship, Goethe Institute, Hong Kong (1995); Hong Kong Arts Development Production Fund, for “I only tell it to strangers”(1996); Hong Kong Arts Development Council Travel Fund, for “Festival of Cultures in Munich (1997); & Fellowship for Artistic Development, granted by the Visual Arts Committee, Arts Development Council (1998). Since 1994, she has participated in Artist-in-residence projects in Brussels, Hong Kong and Australia and has curated various shows in Hong Kong and abroad: “Videotage” annual screening (1978-1995); Hong Kong Video Art (1989); Deep Dish Program (U.S., 1990); Video Mix (Hong Kong, 1990); Hong Kong Video Retrospective 1985-1995 (Taiwan, 1995); Video Circle, video installation project (Hong Kong, 1996); The Best of Videotage 1986-1996 (Hong Kong, 1996); Microwave International Video Festival (Hong Kong, 1996-7); & The Best of Videotage Vol. 2 “Mug Shot” (Hong Kong, 1997).
