Lee obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music in 1969 and 1971 respectively. In 1972 he studied sculpture further at the Staatliche Kunstakadmie Dusseldorf, Germany. From 1977 to 1985 he taught part-time at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He set up a studio in Japan in 1987, and in San Francisco in 1993. He has received numerous awards: Tokyo International prize of Art & Craft Award (1969); Scholarship of D.A.A.D West Germany (1972); Hong Kong Arts Centre Mural Competition First Prize Award (1974); Hong Kong Urban Council Sculpture Art Award (1977); Tsuen Wan Town Hall Mural Competition First Prize Award (1978); Hong Kong Sculpture Walk Kowloon Park Commission Award (1989); Sculptor of the Year, Hong Kong Artist’s Guild (1991); & Hong Kong Urban Council Sculpture Commission Award (1994). Lee has taken part in many group shows since 1971 in Hong Kong, Taipei, Manila, Tokyo and San Francisco. He had held seven one-man show: Hong Kong Quorum Gallery (1976); Hong Kong Arts Centre (1978); Taipei Gallery A (1984); Chinese University of Hong Kong (1985); Tokyo Seibu Akasaka (1988); Hong Kong Nisiki Gallery (1989); San Francisco Cobra Fine Art (1997).
