Her solo exhibitions include “Made in Hong Kong” (1992), “Heroine” (1995), “Made in China Blues” (1999), “Glazing China” (2002) and others. Group exhibitions include “Political Clay” (2000), “China Contemporary Ceramic Art” (2001), “China Ceramics Today” (2002) and others. Since Cheng’s return to Hong Kong in 1990, she has worked as an independent artist, ceramics instructor and lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Recently, she set up a pottery workshop in Shanghai and devotes herself in promoting ceramics in China. Her works are collected by various local and overseas institutes and museums such as the National History Museum in Beijing, Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Museum of Art, the National Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, the Museu de Arte de Macau and the Kresge Art Centre at the Michigan State University in U.S.A. She is deeply influenced by an American cartoonist, Gary Larson, artists Robert Arneson and Marcel Duchamp. Her cartoon ceramics human and animal figures are humorous and colorful in style and mostly satirically commenting on current events of the society. | |||||||||||
