Congratulations go to Shirley CHAN Bik-cheung as the winner of the 2014-15 Asian art essay prize sponsored by the University of Hong Kong Museum Society. Ms. Chan’s essay entitled “An Interpretation of Equestrian Holding a catapult in a Hunt by the Yuan-artist Zhao Yong” demonstrated an innovative analysis supported by original primary document-based research. The jury (consisting of Dr. Koon, the department’s undergraduate coordinator, Professor Clarke, and Dr. Hammers) considered Ms. Chan’s paper as particularly engaging and thoughtful. Congratulations go to Ms. ZOU Yifan who was awarded honorable mention for her essay “Maturity of style, social network, and memory in the archaism of Wen Zhengming’s 1551 Zhuo Zheng Yuan album.

The Department of Fine Arts would like to thank all students who put in extra effort to submit revised essays for the University of Hong Kong Museum Society Asian art essay prize competition. While we can only choose one winner each year, we appreciate the enthusiasm and accomplishments generated by all the applicants.
