David Clarkes’s Photo Exhibition “Here Comes Everybody”

Between 31 December 1994 and 1 January 2000 David Clarke took at least one black and white photo every day, documenting both personal experiences and public events during the last five years of the previous millennium.  This ‘photo diary’ was inspired by the approach of the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from Britain to China, which occurred at the exact mid-point of this period. Here Comes Everybody offers a selection of portrait photos produced as part of Clarke’s project. All of these images were taken in Hong Kong, and they are presented here with the intention of offering us a vantage point on our city as it was during that already rapidly-disappearing period of time.  The images are arranged in chronological sequence.
