Hong Kong Art Archive (HKAA)

Founded in 2000, the Hong Kong Art Archive aims to provide students, academic researchers in the fields of art history and visual culture, curators and others interested in modern and contemporary Chinese art with electronic and physical resources, particularly with respect to the work of living Hong Kong artists.

Electronic resources

The HKAA online site consists of four sections:

  • Visual Archive (offers selected works of 178 Hong Kong artists)
  • Bibliographic Guide (a searchable database)
  • Chronological Database of Art Exhibitions (from 1985-2002)
  • Articles, Interviews and Student Essays (from 1996-2017)

Physical resources

The HKAA printed reference collection consists of books, exhibition catalogues and pamphlets, newspaper clippings and other materials on Hong Kong artists, art societies, galleries, museums and institutions. It is located in the Art History Resource Centre. Information of this collection is included in the Centre’s online library catalogue.

Access

The HKAA online website is open to all with Internet access. Scholars and researchers interested in accessing the physical collection are welcome to consult the archive during office hours. Please email to arrange your visit.
