2020-2021

The Department undergoes a major change this year, with its renaming to The Department of Art History. The Department also launches a new Instagram account as part of this transition. The Department organizes its first-ever international internship programme at Hong Kong House, Echigo-Triennale Japan. Elizabeth Lastra leaves the Department, while Angie Baecker and Sim Hinman Wan stay in the Department. Koon Yeewan receives the University’s Outstanding Teaching Award 2020. To expand the study of Hong Kong art, a group of students from the Hong Kong Art Workshop develops the Hong Kong Art Timeline under Koon Yeewan’s supervision. Carolyn Muir passes away in December 2020.

2021-2022

Anne Williams joins the Department, teaching courses on late medieval and early Renaissance art. The Department organizes two technique workshops, overglaze painting and gongbi over the summer. Chan Chun Wa leaves the Department.

2022-2023

The Department introduces Buddhaverse: Virtual Dunhuang programme. As part of the ARTH3013, Koon Yeewan leads a field trip to New York in June, visiting art institutions such as the Asia Art Archive in America, Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Arts. Students also participate in and host a series of workshops with Luke Ching. Sim Hinman Wan leaves the Department.

2023-2024

Caitlin Karyadi and Konstance Li join the Department, offering courses on Japanese art and Buddhist art. In January, the Department organizes a large-scale public event, In Conversation: Nara Yoshitomo with Dr. Yeewan Koon, at the Grand Hall, with more than 700 attendants. In June, the Department organizes the Art History & Curatorship Seminars 2024 on art eco-system in Hong Kong with The University of Melbourne. Angie Baecker leaves the Department. Roslyn Hammers, having taught at the Department for 17 years, retires at the end of the academic year. Grace Wong and Yan Pui Ling, who have also served in the Department for over thirty years, also retire.
