The Department of Fine Arts is proud to note that in Hong Kong’s 2014 Research Assessment Exercise, 84% of our research outputs were rated at the two highest levels of 4* and 3*. This was the highest score among all programs within HKU, matched by only one other department. Asian Art Essay Prize Competition 2014-2015 This is a call for entries for the annual University of Hong Kong Museum Society Asian Art Essay Prize. A prize of HK$2,000 will be offered to the winner. Fine Arts Society: Museum Visit
Museum Visit at Hong Kong Heritage Museum In view of the exciting exhibition “Dunhuang – Untold Tales, Untold Riches” at Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Fine Arts Society organized a study trip on February 7th, 2015. The Society invited Dr Yeewan Koon to tour a group of 20 Fine Arts students through the exhibition. They went from one cave to another, experiencing how those fascinating mural paintings and sculptures would have functioned in their original contexts. Meeting Place: Open Studio with Artstation Please join our university artists Glenn Davidson and Anne Hayes of Artstation. There will be an open studio in Room 404 Run Run Shaw Tower between Feb 2-13. It opens from Monday to Friday, from 2 to 4pm. Asian Art Essay Prize 2013-2014
The Department of Fine Arts at the University of Hong Kong is pleased to announce that the winner of this year’s University of Hong Kong Museum Society Asian Art Essay Prize is Mr. Andrew Fung On Tsun for his essay “A New Perspective in Chinese Art: Unearthing Vernacular Painting in the High Qing.” Honorable mention goes to Ms Zhu Pingyan. Transformations: Art Workshop and Art Practices Last summer, with the support of HKU Knowledge Exchange Grant and the Faculty of Arts, a group of Fine Arts undergraduates, including Miles Dugan, Erin Li, and Clea Chan, Shirley Chan, Bridgette Kam, Chloe Lam and Sunny Liu, worked on the project Transformations: Art Workshops and Art Practices, in which they assisted in the production of It Begins with Metamorphosis: Xu Bing, an exhibition curated by one of our faculty members Dr. Yeewan Koon at Asia Society Hong Kong Centre from May 8 to August 31, 2014.
