Dr. Yeewan Koon and the 2018 Gwangju Biennale

The 2018 Gwangju Biennale will soon start and Dr. Yeewan Koon as one of the 11 curators is currently busy working with the artists at the exhibition venue. Their section is called “Faultlines”. Information will soon be available on a dedicated website for this section. Asian Art Essay Prize Competition 2017-2018 This is a call for entries for the annual University of Hong Kong Museum Society Asian Art Essay Prize. A prize of HK$2,000 will be offered to the winner. Asian Art Essay Prize 2016-2017

The winner of the 2016-17 Asian Art Essay Prize is Ms. Tong Yijia (Tracy), for an essay entitled “Ran as Rhetoric: Reconsideration of Dutch-Japanese Interactions in Edo Period,” which is available to read here. This prize includes a cash award generously funded by the HKU Museum Society. Tracy wrote the essay originally for Dr. Hammers’ capstone seminar course ARTH4002 Perspectives in Asian Art. Since graduating in June, she has joined the MA program in East Asian Studies at UCLA. Honorable mention goes to Ms. Liu Chang for her essay “Interrelationship between Format and Function in Chinese Narrative Art.” The prize jury consisted of Drs. Asia Regional Winner of the Undergraduate Awards in Art History

Chan Yi Kwan is the Asia Regional Winner of The Undergraduate Awards in art history We’re proud to announce that former Fine Arts undergraduate student Ms. CHAN Yi Kwan has been named the Asia Regional Winner of The Undergraduate Awards in the category of Art History and Theory. Ms. Chan won for an essay entitled “Art as Tactics and Beyond: Countdown Machine,” which she originally wrote for our capstone course ARTH4001, Art History Methodology Workshop, taught by Professor David Clarke. The Undergraduate Awards is a non-profit organization based in Ireland that holds an annual competition to recognize high-performing university students worldwide.
