Professor David Clarke obtained his PhD in art history from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, in 1983. He moved to Hong Kong in 1986, and continues to be based here. He is currently the Honorary Professor in the Department of Art History of the University of Hong Kong.

Professor Clarke has served as External Moderator of the Strategic Planning Group of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and as a member of its Visual Arts Committee. He has also served on the Board of Governors of the Hong Kong Arts Centre (and as chair of its Arts Programme Committee), as a member of the International Committee of the College Art Association (USA), and as a member of the Museums Advisory Group of the Consultative Committee on the Core Arts and Cultural Facilities of the West Kowloon Cultural District (HKSAR Government). He was a member of Council and chair of Academic Committee for Hong Kong Arts Centre’s Hong Kong Art School.
