Career Opportunities: Part-time Instructor in Art History/ Studio Art
The Department of Fine Arts at the University of Hong Kong invites applications for part time teachers. We are seeking teachers to offer courses in Art History or Studio Art during the academic year 2019-2020, specialty open. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Art History (or ABD status) or MFA, as relevant. Candidates should also have proven experience teaching in higher education. The salary per course is approximately $80,000 (including MPF as appropriate). Launching of the FAULTLINES Afterwords website
Afterwords is a website developed for the 2018 Gwangju Biennale “Faultlines” exhibition curated by Dr. Yeewan Koon. It documented a series of interviews with the participating artists held during the summer months of 2018. Artists included Hasan Elahi, Hyangro Yoon, Simon Leung, Nara Yoshitomo, Shitamichi Motoyuki, Joongho Yum, Byron Kim, Tara Donovan, Yoan Capote, Chen Wei, Luke Ching, Minjung Kim and Paolo Cirio. New Publication by David Clarke China-Art-Modernity Congratulations to our Honorary Professor David Clarke, whose latest publication entitled China—Art—Modernity: A Critical Introduction to Chinese Visual Expression from the Beginning of the Twentieth Century to the Present Day has just come out and is now available at Hong Kong University Press, as well as Amazon and Book Depository. Along with his earlier well-received publications, Hong Kong Art: Culture and Decolonization (2001), Water and Art (2010), and Chinese Art and its Encounter with the World (2011), this volume is another valuable one to add to his oeuvre, to the field of Chinese art history, and to our collection!
Asian Art Essay Prize 2017-2018
The Department of Fine Arts is pleased to announce that the committee for the Asian Art Essay Prize, consisting of Dr. Koon, Dr. Wyma and Dr. Hammers, has selected the essay “A New Perspective in Reviewing the Modern Woodcut Movement” by Melanie Chung as the winner. We appreciate the sophisticated analysis Ms. Chung brought to bear on her research of the history of the modern woodcut movement in twentieth-century China.
